Website trust pages: what About, Contact and Privacy pages actually do

Why publisher trust pages matter—and why placeholder legal text is a poor substitute.

Trust pages are not decorative footer links. They explain who operates a website, how visitors can make contact and how personal information or third-party services are handled.

About

Explain the site's purpose and audience in concrete language. Avoid invented team stories, fabricated awards or vague claims.

Contact

Provide a real contact method that is monitored. If you publish an email address, create the mailbox or forwarding alias before launch.

Privacy

The privacy policy should reflect the site's actual technology: analytics, advertising, forms, email subscriptions, cookies and any other personal-data processing.

Consistency matters more than legal-sounding language

The company or site name, contact address and description of the service should not contradict one another across pages. A visitor who sees one identity on the homepage and a different identity in the footer or privacy policy has a legitimate reason to hesitate.

Write the Privacy page from the actual data flow

Start with the technologies the site really uses: hosting logs, analytics, advertising, contact forms, newsletters, accounts and payment systems. Then explain the relevant processing in understandable language. A copied policy that describes nonexistent services can be less trustworthy than a shorter accurate one.

Advertising and affiliate disclosures

If the business uses advertising, affiliate links, sponsored placements or other commercial relationships that require disclosure, make those disclosures easy to find and consistent with the real business model. Do not create endorsements, partner logos or testimonials that do not exist.

Keep contact channels operational

A published email address should be monitored. A contact form should be tested after deployments. If messages are routed through forwarding, verify that replies come from an address the recipient will recognize.

Review trust pages when the product changes

Adding analytics, a newsletter, user accounts, payments or a new advertising provider can make an old privacy statement incomplete. Treat trust pages as maintained product documentation rather than one-time launch paperwork.
